In recent weeks, we have heard from many students that they are struggling to pay the rent, as many have lost their source of income. Several petitions circulated to temporarily lower the rent, because people saw no possibility to pay the rent. Duwoners also consulted with DUWO about the options for these students. DUWO has clearly indicated that a general measure, such as halving rents for everyone, is not an option, because it is far too expensive. They explain their decision here in more detail. However, this does not mean that students who really cannot afford the rent are not helped. DUWO indicates that individual people who experience problems with the rental can request an individual payment scheme. They then check whether a number of conditions are met, and if so, the payment rules get relaxed. For more information about this option, check here
